New England Concert Reviews (NECR) is one of the leading sources of music news and concert information in the New England region. Updated daily, NECR provides readers with news, features, interviews, concert reviews, photo galleries and much more. Readers can find all the latest information on all genres of music – from rock to country and hip-hop to blues – on the national and local levels.

Our goal is simple: to create a collaborative partnership with the artists and management and capture the excitement of music history as it unfolds throughout New England.

 

  • As photographers: We aim to capture that perfect image, that iconic shot when the musician, lights, camera and photographer, all come together in a ‘moment.’ Part of our mission is to preserve these great moments. Our photographers spend their lives covering great moments in music; each of our photographs speaks in its own voice. loud, defiant, quiet, unassuming. it should be simple, but we know it isn’t.  That’s why we created this site.

  • As writers: We love music of all genres. both the recorded works and raw energy of the show are inspiring to us. Through in-depth research on the artist, integration of music knowledge and detailed documentation as the event unfolds, our comprehensive articles of live concerts recreate the experience for the reader this is why our readers love us.

General Staff Internship

Over the past 4 years, the NECR team has grown to include dozens of photographers shooting and reviewing hundreds of concerts annually, as well as a radio station and video interviews with bands.

The internship is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in:

  • Exposure to the workings of the live music industry
  • Tickets and press credentials for select concerts
  • Building relationships with bands and publicists
  • Running an online media site

Responsibilities include:

  • Staying up to date with the latest music news for New England
  • Posting music industry news using WordPress
  • Coordinating with bands’ publicists for photo passes
  • Coordinating and working with photographers
  • Coordinating and working with writers

Approximate time commitment: 5-10 hrs/week

Compensation: The site not for profit / all-volunteer effort. This is an unpaid internship opportunity.

Journalism / Content Interns

New England Concert Reviews is seeking bright, motivated writers who share our passionate about music. Reporting to the Managing Editors, Journalism/Content interns will assist with updating website content including writing news articles and concert reviews.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and write news and extended feature articles
  • Attend concerts and write reviews
  • Conduct interviews with artists (in-person, phone or e-mail) and/or attend press conferences
  • Update concert calendar database
  • Assist with updates and maintenance of website and social media accounts
  • Work closely with Editorial Team to develop new forms of content

Required Skills/Experience:

Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications or Journalism with prior journalism experience (such as a school newspaper or internship) is preferred. Possesses excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, remote work environment. Position requires excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Must demonstrate a positive, upbeat and enjoyable attitude. Be knowledgeable about NECR and a fan of music with knowledge of the local and national music scene a plus. The position requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Live Event Photographer

New England Concert Reviews is seeking bright, motivated photographers who share our passionate about music. Reporting to the Chief photographer, the future photographer will be covering the show photographically for use a the primary photo content for the online magazine including concert reviews and feature stories/interviews, as well as the photo gallery’s. From time to time the photographer may be asked to write a written review of the show. You must have your own gear and equipment capable of taking low light photos. You will be responsible for editing your own photos and uploading them.

  • Take professional quality photos
  • Attend concerts and write reviews
  • Conduct interviews with artists (in-person, by phone or e-mail) and/or attend press conferences
  • Update concert calendar database
  • Assist with updates and maintenance of website and social media accounts
  • Work closely with Editors to develop new forms of content
  • Required Skills/Experience:

Possesses excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, remote work environment. Position requires excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Must demonstrate a positive, upbeat and enjoyable attitude. Be knowledgeable about NECR and a fan of music with knowledge of the local and national music scene a plus. The position requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends. Marketing Promotions Interns

New England Concert Reviews is seeking bright, motivated individuals who share our passionate about music. Reporting to the Promotions Director, we seek a bright, motivated individuals to assist part-time with the daily efforts of our promotions and marketing team. Promotions/Marketing interns will prepare and support all offline/on-site promotional campaigns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with online and offline/on-site contests
  • Attend NECR events and run promotional activities to increase NECR visibility
  • Enhance and maintain the client/prospect database, maintain and update
    contact information for mail and e-mail
  • Develop plans for new promotional NECR events
  • Research leads for potential sponsors and prizes
  • Manage inventory of promotional items
  • Compile media kits, sales sheets and other reference materials
  • Assist with updates and maintenance of NECR website and social media accounts

Required Skills/Experience:

Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business or Communications. Possesses excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, remote work environment. Must demonstrate a positive, upbeat and enjoyable attitude. Be knowledgeable about NECR and a fan of music with knowledge of the local and national music scene a plus. Comfortable approaching and talking with general public to promote NECR. The position requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends.
